Title: Playing Outdoors
Post by: MomOfTwo on June 25, 2018, 11:42:16 PM
Children these days don't always go outside and play under the sun. Many of them are stuck with their gadgets or phones that they don't find enjoyment playing outside. How do we encourage children of today go outside and play with them? They seem to think that we, older folks, are boring when it comes to playing games.

We have to be patient with little kids these days. It is indeed hard to compete with digital games. What I did with my son was that I joined him by watching his video game and sometimes playing with him. Afterwards, I will ask him if he wanted to walk with me outside and he usually says yes. We need to give interest to what our children like and then they will start listening to us.

They definitely have too many games and devices to play with to be interested in going outside. It's a real shame. When I do take my grandchildren outside, they better have something to do because simply playing in the park is not done. They can't seem to keep themselves busy. So usually I will take them to a museum or to a waterpark to catch some sun and take their eyes off the screens.

Do you think it is a good idea to give a time allotment for the gadgets? When they used up the time in using their gadgets, then the gadgets will be taken away and they can do whatever they like to do without the gadgets.

It is a good idea. However, children who are used to playing gadgets will become irritable when we try to stop them. How about using the gadgets and playing outdoors at the same time. Have you heard of the game Pokemon Go?

My nephews played the game when it was still popular. They spent the time looking for those imaginary creatures in different places. I don't like it though because they don't talk to us while they are busy with their game.
