Title: Worrying about the kids getting distant
Post by: haidyl on August 21, 2019, 01:44:06 PM
Any parent loves to see the kids grow together and form a special bond between them. When our first child left for college, the biggest worry was how the siblings would cope in his absence. They missed him terribly and would speak with him on the phone daily. Did you, at some point, worry about the children growing apart?

I worry about that and I worry about them growing apart from me.  I keep replaying the saying, "out of sight, out of mind" in my head.  I really hope that doesn't happen!

This is also a thing for me as both of my kids are abroad right now. I’m already grateful that they don’t forget to facetime me even when they are busy. By staying more in touch, I hope we won’t get that distant from each other.

The truth is that at some point, the kids start getting busy with their lives and they might not talk as much as they would want to. I always remind them that family comes first, despite everything. Despite my fears, they have managed to remain close over the years.

This is definitely a worry I have. I know that there will be a time when me and my husband won't be around so all they'll have is each other (and their significant others). I definitely encourage them to stick together.
