Reliving the past and the mistakes you've made
« on: September 06, 2019, 03:21:31 AM »
I find myself thinking and worrying a lot about my past and if I raised my children right. As moms, parents we always try to do the best we can and do what we think is best in the moment, but I think back on the mistakes I've made or things I could have done differently. How do you deal with these feelings of regret?

I try to tell myself that I did the best I could at that time.  I also tell my kids I'm sorry for different things.  Of course, they just roll their eyes at me.

The truth is that we have all made mistakes at some point, and what matters is whether or not we learned a lesson, as a result. I can’t think of any major mistakes I have made while raising the children. Focusing on the past can literally stall our progress.

I can't think of any major mistakes either, but I do question myself on if I should have been stricter or more lenient. I should have stopped and played more instead of worrying about housework and such. I know there is no one way to parent and kids need different parenting styles.  I wish we lived in a society that multi generations lived or stayed together and that was okay and that you didn't feel the pressure to be on your own to be a successful person in life. Sorry, I got off topic!
Again, I try not to think that I failed as a parent.  Everyone who looks at my daughters think I did a great job, but I guess that's the curse of being a mother...we always have to question ourselves.

I think this is true for me too, I haven't made any major mistakes that hugely affected the way my children ended up. And it is definitely stalling my own progress, worrying too much about the past and things I cannot change anyway.
