Marriage on the rocks
« on: September 04, 2019, 01:07:23 AM »
Ever since our youngest moved out, me and my husband's marriage has been on the rocks. We don't spend a lot of time together and we have nothing to talk about. I feel like I am losing touch as I am going to explore other hobbies. Has anybody gone through this also and what are your tips?

The truth is that every marriage goes through a period of uncertainty. Apart from having nothing to talk about, could there be anything else that has strained your relationship? Talk to him as well; maybe he doesn't see things in the same way you do!

I've been a single mom for a long time, but I hear this is pretty common with empty nest. Can you try to go on some date nights with your husband? Try to find a hobby you can do together? Ask about his day or his hobbies or interests. Hang in there!

Yes, I agree with Elsie that it may help to check on him by finding out how his day was or going out on a date. I don't feel like your marriage is on the rocks; it seems like there exists a lack of communication.

Thanks, ladies, for your input. I will try to communicate with him and ask more. When I ask him about his day he is very short with me and will answer "it was fine". But he's always been that way. It never bothered me so much, but now that there is nobody else in the house to talk to, it is starting to get a little boring. We haven't gone out on a date in many years, we are not the romantic type.
