Thermostat Wars
« on: April 06, 2019, 06:51:00 AM »
My husband and I are more or less on the same wavelength when it comes to temperature, but my mom always seems to be colder than the rest of us. As we go into Spring and Summer, I want my mom to be comfortable in our home, but I tend to get sick from all the heat and like it pretty cool in the warmer months.

I don't want to banish my poor mom to one or two rooms in the house, but I also want to be comfortable. I've tried leaving the house as warm as she likes it, but it's just too much heat for me.

Should I just suck it up so she can be comfortable? She sacrificed a lot for me when she raised me. Do I try to make one or two rooms as cool as I need them and retreat there every little bit during the warmer months? Any ideas on how to reasonably compromise on the temperature so everyone is relatively happy and comfortable?

I am in this war myself.  My husband like the thermostat on 80, my son likes it on 72...   There is ALWAYS someone complaining!  I bought my husband flannel lined jeans for Christmas.. now keep in mind I live in Florida!!!  He wears long sleeve Tshirts with a sweat shirt over top and his flannel lined pants and heavy socks.   We put the thermostat on 78 during the day or I melt...and down on 74 when my son is due home from work.  Good luck to you.  Buy your mom a lovely heavy sweater and one of those lap electric blankets (also what my husband uses)

It happens to the best of us. I have five children and they all complained about the temperature. So did my husband. It was a nightmare trying to keep everyone satisfied. One of my daughters was frozen all the time and my husband is the type to open windows during winter for some "fresh air." She would crank the heat literally to "max" (it was an old thermostat with a dial, not a digital one) and he would be running around opening windows! I chuckle thinking back on it now, but it was aggravating at the time.

My husband was always very strict with our kids about the thermostat. They knew not to touch it. If they were cold, they put on sweaters and blankets. If they were hot, they had a cool drink or some ice cream. Now that I love alone, one of the best parts is I can put the temperature to whatever the heck I want.
