Video Camera Advice?
« on: April 01, 2019, 06:48:57 AM »
My husband and I want to invest in a nice video camera to take home movies of our grandson (who's arriving in a few months!). We also want to take some videos of my mom who has Alzheimer's while she's still pretty lucid so that her great grandchild will have a way to get to know/remember her when she's gone.

Do  you all have any recommendations on what we should look for? We are not too electronically savvy over here!

I am a photography enthusiast and since you love to take videos, I would recommend getting a Canon camera. Nikon cameras are better suited for photos. How much are you willing to spend and are you (necessarily) looking for something that's brand new?

I had no idea Canon was better for video. Thanks for the advice!

No, we don't necessarily need a new one. I'd be happy with a used camera in good condition. Where could I find one of those? I know Craigslist might have some, but you just never know what you're buying in terms of quality with them. If I got a used camera, I'd like to ensure it is in good condition and working well before I bought it.

Well, eBay is my 'go-to' site whenever I am looking for slightly used cameras. The best way to check a camera's condition is by way of verifying the shutter count (amount of photos the camera has taken) and I have heard it said that any number under 2000 means that the device is almost as good as new.

I am not really sure if these sites list the shutter count but it is always good to find this out first.
