Splitting the Household Duties

My husband helps me a lot on weekends. He does some of the household chores and helps me take care of my mom. During the week, though, he's often very tired after work and doesn't feel like doing much. So I'm left with all the household responsibilities. I feel bad for him so I don't say anything, but sometimes I do wish he'd pitch in more during the week.


I know I'm lucky to have a husband who helps out at all. I try to remind myself of this when I find myself getting frustrated.


How do you and your spouse split the household duties?

We dont.  I use to feel sorry for my husband too, thinking he was tired after work why he never helped me, but just like he was then he is now..  and he will not help even when I ask for help..  Your's is different since he does help out on weekends I bet if you asked him he would respond gently.

One thing I have to give my ex-husband credit for was being a great housekeeper. We always split the duties equally. He took on the tough tasks like cleaning the toilet and bathtub and left the chump chores like dishes and laundry for me. He was kind of a "Danny Tanner" at times (dad on Full House) which I loved. My kids hated it though.

CountryMom,  why did your kids hate their dad being like Danny on full house?

Mary, they hated the expectation of keeping our house spotless. I understand, no teenager wants to be nagged to clean up all the time. Now that they're adults, they also understand the other point of view, and my daughter actually thanked me and her dad for instilling those habits in her.

Well, we've never really sat down and split the tasks because he always takes on the more difficult ones all the time. He may not always be available when needed but at least he makes up for the days when he is too tired. I hope this doesn't stop at any point
