Checking the litter box
« on: February 01, 2019, 10:52:23 AM »
How often do you check the kitty litter? I'm cat-sitting for my brother-in-law a few more weeks. I was told to check the box every other day. Well, it might be a mix of Bobby's age (almost 13) and being somewhere new, but he pooped outside the box a few times. I'm checking 3 times a day and that helps, but it's not the answer!

I know they wont use the litter box if it is dirty.  Unless it's just his age, but they are usually pretty good at using the littler box..   Can you scoop the poop out ?

I use a raking scoop each time the litter isn't smooth, and I dig in and scoop out clumps. I add clean litter each day and wipe stains. I sweep around the box, too. Maybe he's losing some poop control?

Thanks! His mom and dad said it's been going on for about a year, and they say it's his age. I still want to see if I can help make this better. It seems like checking the box every 4-5 hours is sort of working.

I was thinking of that, really! Just in case the poor guy is having control issues because of his age, you know? If things get worse, I'm heading to Petco!
