Convincing Her She's Beautiful

I talked with my daughter over the weekend, and she was pretty upset because she has gained a little weight since she started college. She used to run track and cross-country in high school, bu she doesn't now. She tries to make time to run, but she is so busy with her studies that she doesn't run as much as she would like.


She's a very healthy young woman. She doesn't need to worry about her weight. She's beautiful just the way she is, but I know that when I tell her how beautiful she is, she thinks I have to say that because I'm her mom.


How can I convince her that she's just fine the way she is and she doesn't need to worry about a few extra pounds?

Good luck there!  Let me know if you find an answer because I even go thru this with my son, who I think is a hunk!   They think they have to be SKINNY or they are FAT!  Shoot,  I feel that way myself..   :(   You know it's the public that makes us feel this way.   :dunno:

I agree, MaryB. Society teaches us to be dissatisfied with our bodies from a very early age. I have always told my daughter she is beautiful just the way she is, but I know that all the messages the media sends us have gotten into her head. I wish the media would send more body-positive messages to all of us - we are all beautiful and unique!
