Helping a Friend Through Divorce?
« on: January 10, 2019, 05:46:12 AM »
A friend of mine recently confided in me that she's going through a divorce. Her son is a junior in college and lives on campus, so he isn't home much anymore.

I'm still married and cannot even imagine how difficult this must be on her. I am trying to be a good friend by offering a listening ear and getting together with her when we can, but I feel so helpless. What else can I do to help my friend?

That's exactly what she needs is you to listen.  A lot of people want to give advise but most of the time listening (your time) is what will comfort them.  I hope everyone involved has peace.  You are a good friend.

My advice is to be there for her when she needs it but don't smother or try to coddle her. If she reaches out for a chat, be available to talk at that moment. Have a few one-on-one conversations with her. Take her out for a meal. Be a good friend for her by showing her that you're in her life and care about her well-being.

Sometimes a listening ear is what a person needs the most in this case. You might be more of a benefit to her than you realize.
