Sad About Mom

Mom had a bad day yesterday. She kept asking me where things were repeatedly. I know that this is part of the disease and that she cannot help it. It is just so hard to watch her have those bad days. She's in the stage where she knows she can't remember things, and I know it bothers her, too. I try not to show my sadness around her, but it was hard to sleep last night because I was thinking about the progression of the disease.

Katy, so sorry about your mom; at the end of it all, it shall be well. I am sure she draws strength from you and so it is encouraging to see that as much as she may have those bad days, you keep doing your best to ensure that she remains happy.

We are definitely doing our best. We want to keep my mom here living with us for as long as we possibly can. We know that we will probably have to put her in a nursing home when her Alzheimer's becomes advanced, but we hope that won't happen for a long time still. Her happiness is so important to us.

Your mother will be in my thoughts and prayers as she undergoes this trial in her life. I hope she will get better so she won't have to go to the nursing home.


How about making a list of things where they are located so that your mom won't have to ask you all the time?

MerryMe, that is a fantastic idea! I don't know why I didn't think of that. We have a huge calendar so she can look at it and see what activities are going on, like doctor's appointments and errands and such. A list of where things are kept would be a great addition, and I'm sure it will help her a lot at this stage of the disease. Thank you so much for the suggestion!

Katy, I'm terribly sorry to hear that your mother's memory is slipping away.  I hope you're able to enjoy her at home for as long as possible and will be praying for you all.  You are a generous daughter to physically care for her during this stage of her life.  I hope you all have a wonderful Christmas together!
