Taking care of your eyes
« on: July 04, 2018, 11:55:17 AM »
I used to be in a job that required me to use a PC, almost the entire time. I bought photo-chromatic and anti-glare glasses, to reduce the strain on my eyes. Do you think it is a good idea to have them on most of the time? Eye health is really important and I am looking for any tips to help with this. For starters, I always avoid rubbing them because hands are often exposed to a lot of dirt and bacteria.

I think that it just starts with eating well. Foods rich in omega-3 fatty acids, zinc and vitamins C and E play a great role in keeping the eyes healthy. Wearing sunglasses also helps to protect the eyes from the sun's UV rays.

I don't know how much those kinds of glasses would help in your everyday life. If you look at screens a lot, then I don't think it could hurt! Like with everything health-related, staying hydrated is important. I think the diet advice that ava mentioned is the best way to maintain healthy eyesight.

Overall, I think that eyes are mostly neglected because of the assumption that they can take care of themselves. For instance, when is the last time you got your eyes checked? Thanks for that tip ava.

I wear contacts, and when I'm home I switch to glasses as soon as it gets dark. I also try (but easily forget) to look at things from a distance instead of staring at what's only in front of me.

It's been years since I've seen an optometrist. I figure that as long as my vision isn't getting any worse and that I eat enough food with vitamin A that I don't have to go.
