Home feels emptier than ever

My kids have all moved on and, more recently, our dog passed three months ago. We're not coping with the emptiness very well. We've been through the new empty nest phase twice now, but we always had Buster. Now, we're just sort of...listless.

We have been thinking about getting another dog even though we both agreed we wouldn't. We want to be able to travel more without feeling guilty about leaving our dog in a kennel (or spending a fortune on it). It's strange having absolutely nothing in the house that is dependent on me. It should be more freeing than it is.

Anyone else feeling this way? How are you coping?

I know what you mean about the animals.  I have 8 cats and trying to go somewhere is difficult.  My daughter and grandsons usually take care of the animals but 8 is a lot to take care of in litter boxes alone.  Why don't you travel some first and get a dog at a later date.  Start planning and getting excited about a trip.

Oh my goodness! Eight cats? I can only imagine how hard it must be to travel with that many fur babies. Just like I can only imagine how nice it must be to have them all around when you're home - litter boxes and all! Have you tried one of those self-cleaning litter boxes? I know they're pricey, but my brother swears by them...and he's only got one cat!

You know, nothing distracts me like having something to plan. That's a great idea! I know I started a topic a while ago to get ideas for travel destinations. I'll have to go revisit that. Thanks for the help, Betty!
