Very helpful: How to practice emotional first aid
« on: April 04, 2018, 11:50:56 AM »
Friend sent me these materials, they are the most powerful help I've received so far since my child moved out. I shouldn't have allowed myself to feel the emotional pain for so long. Start from now, I am willing to battle over it.

Really want to share with those of you lovely mums who are also suffering, and wish it helps. I know the journey of recovery won't be easy, and may be long, but it's better to start it:

I tend to think that most people don't regard emotional pain as a serious issue and so help is either sought much later, or not sought at all. Seeing a health professional and surrounding ourselves with supportive friends, will make the transition smoother.

This is a good way to look at it. Most people focus on the emptiness that engulfs them, forgetting that emotions are involved and there needs to be a way of overcoming this. Cushioning ourselves from the onset would be helpful indeed.

I really liked the videos Cindy.  They could be very helpful in certain situations.  So many treat people with depression like they're crazy and just say "they'll get over it."  Depression and loneliness are very real conditions and should be treated as such.  You're in a good place to get help Cindy.  Keep in touch.
