Never Again
« on: March 30, 2018, 07:34:46 AM »
Once was enough folks!  I don't ever need a man in my life again.  Due to physical and mental abuse by both my father and my husband, I have had enough.  My friend tells me I have anger issues which I probably do.  For now I like being by myself and won't ever look for another man.   :040:

Trust me, I would do exactly the same thing if I was in your shoes. Abuse, be it physical and mental, has far-reaching effects. Any man that lays hands on you would probably not protect you at your most vulnerable moment. I wish you happiness though.

There was a time when I thought that I'd fine alone. I changed my mind (a bit) when I met my husband, but I feel like I can still do everything on my own. If you feel comfortable and are in control of your life now, then I guess there is no problem in staying single. Have you ever thought about what you would do if one day someone you feel worthy comes along?

Good point. See, when all seems bleak, that one person comes by and causes a change of mind. I understand your situation but try not to rule out the possibility of meeting someone completely different. There are really nice people out there.

I'm so sorry to hear that you had awful experiences with men @BettyBoop, and if you are happy with your decision then it's the right one for you. But if a close friend has said that maybe you have anger issues, and if you think s/he might be right, why not get those looked at? There's a risk that the justified anger you're feeling against your abusers could be turned on yourself and make you resist a genuine friendship with a man. It doesn't have to be a romantic friendship, but just to accept that there are good men out there.

The anger issues could also get in the way of a friendship with another woman. No one likes to be around anyone, man or woman, who is angry all the time.

Hey BettyBoop, don't give up yet; you may still come across someone who treats you well and shows appreciation, for who you actually are. Ultimately, each of us deserves to be happy, in our own unique ways.

I'm so sorry you have been through so much.  I can understand being angry and resentful about it, but please try not to close your heart completely.  Not all men are like this.

I think that we all, men and women alike, need to be okay with being ourselves and by ourselves before we enter into a relationship anyway.  The fact that you are happy being single right now is a good sign.  Spend time with friends, do things you enjoy.  You deserve to be happy, and I wish you all the very best!

I am so sorry you've had to go through this! No woman (or man!) should have to experience abuse from their significant other, it's disgraceful! And I know you probably realize that not all men are like this. But enjoy your time alone! We don't need men to live a great and meaningful life!

Some men or women that had a good marriage want to remarry thinking they can have a good relationship again, but if you had a bad marriage there's no way you'd want to risk it..  I understand totally!    :039:
