What number is too many?

I am such a sucker when it comes to animals, especially strays.  I currently have 8 cats and a dog that must be put down soon because of cancer.  I can't seem to say no to a little half starved kitten that needs a home.  Any of you like this?

Wow, you are such a lover of animals; I have never gone past four. Nonetheless, I have such a big heart for the homeless ones and your thought of adopting the starved cat is a really noble thought. Is this kitten within your reach?

I've only had two dogs at most. The house would be too crowded if we had more than two. Taking care of them also required too much time for me if we had as much as you! How did you organize the time between handling the house chores and the pets?
