Ever gone for counselling?

Throughout the duration of our marriage, we've never considered going for counselling. Somehow, we have always found ways of navigating through our issues. I always joke and tell my husband that I wouldn't count on him if we ever faced a counselor; he is the type to deny ever doing anything.

Well you work thru things yourselves so that is a very good thing.

My husband and I have never felt the need to go to marriage counseling, but I did try it with my ex-husband. Obviously it didn't work since he is my ex now. What I learned from that, though, is that you can't wait until things get really bad to go to a professional. By the time we enlisted the help of a therapist, I was already feeling pretty indifferent toward him and she wasn't able to change that. My advice for anyone who is considering it would be to go as soon as possible.

I think with counselling, it has more to do with finding someone to trust, rather than the process itself. Many couples are never willing to disclose any challenges they may be facing; instead, opting to try to tackle them on their own. Nonetheless, I get the idea that this need not be looked at as a measure of last resort.
