Being set up
« on: August 26, 2017, 10:01:50 PM »
I am happily single, as I have mentioned before on the forums. However, my daughter thinks that I need a partner in my life and keeps trying to set me up with people. She's even signed me up for a couple of online dating sites without my permission. As much as I try to get her to understand that I'm fine being alone, she seems to think otherwise.  :dunno:  Any advice?

Well, that's where I'd draw the line.  She may mean well, but that is a huge privacy violation to me.  Have you let her know how you fill your nights and weekends?  Maybe you could mention hanging out with a cousin or friend. Anything to calm her worries that you're lonely and in need of companionship might help.  It's sweet, though, that your daughter cares so much!

That is sweet that your daughter cant stand the thought of you being lonely.  I guess you need to impress on her that you really are okay!

I am sure she has your best interest at heart Natasha.  You just need to reassure her that you are fine and enjoy life without a significant other.  You may also want to bring up "stepfather" which I'm sure she hasn't thought about.  That might help her to back off.

Kidless, you always give such excellent advice!  I especially like the "stepfather" part.

Good luck, Natasha.  I think it's sweet that your daughter cares so much.  I would be leery of having an online dating profile, but I'm shy (and married).

Thanks guys. I'm sure she really does think that she has my best interest at heart and thinks that I'm afraid to admit I'm lonely, even though that's not the issue. I'll definitely bring up the "stepfather" thing and see if that makes her back off.
