Realizing That This is Really Me
« on: March 08, 2017, 06:38:41 PM »
As I age, I realize that the person I was, or rather, the person I was trying to be in younger years, wasn't the real me, the one deep down inside. It's peculiar that the person who I always wanted to be and couldn't bring to the surface because he was "hidden away" not to be shown for some obscure reason or purpose is staring at me in the face as I look in the mirror now every day. Somehow, I feel good about this, and am at peace with it. Do any of you feel this way now, as if this is the true "you"?

I am not the real me either.  True love lets you be the real you, but how many really have that.  Unless you live alone, then you can be who  you really are.  My whole life would be different if I were free to be me.

Oh Mary.  I am so sorry you can't be you.  What would you do differently?  Why can't you be you?  I agree that when I was younger I was not the "real" me but now I am truly me.  I do choose my words carefully so as to not hurt anyone but other than that I'm good.  The older I get, the less difference it makes what others think of me.

I, too feel more "me" now that I'm older. The way things change in this hustle and bustle society makes me want to stay more myself more than ever! Don't ask me why this is, it's just a normal process undergone when one gets on in years, I guess.

I feel like I am finally "me." It has a lot to do with finally accepting myself and being surrounded by people who love me and appreciate who I really am too. I can finally say I love myself and don't always put everyone else's needs before my own. I just wish I had felt like this 20 years ago before all the health problems occurred so I could've enjoyed life more back then.

I can see that I'm not alone in feeling about finally realizing now that I'm the real me! Thanks everybody! So, being at peace with my inside self, I can pursue whatever pleases me without worrying about social implications or conformity. It is quite liberating.

I agree with all of you when you say that you can be the real you when alone. I was a very different person when I was getting married but now that the kids are gone, I'm beginning to feel more of who I was decades back. I'm at peace though since there is nothing much I could/would do.
