Does menopause scare you?

I'm watching TV dramas when I have some free time. A character in a series was really scared when she thought she had menopause. She felt that only trust and loyalty kept her marriage intact because she was no longer 'the woman'. Did you also feel the same?

I'm divorced, but I think that's one possible natural response. It's what makes us different and special, so to lose it can probably make you feel lost in life. Of course, there's more to life than just reproduction.

My mom went through a similar experience because she felt that her physical appearance was negatively affected. This was only a temporary phase, though, as with the proper diet and care, things do improve.

I am actually looking forward to it. My periods have already become irregular, I have frequent hot flashes and my fibro makes that time of the month complete misery for me.

I don't want any more kids so I can't wait to go through it. I don't think I will feel any different once I do. My periods have been crazy lately so it will be a welcome friend to me when they stop.

What do you think about contraception, including the tubal ligation? I mean, there are ways to avoid getting kids before reaching menopause.

I've had crazy menstrual cycles since I was young, so I probably wouldn't even notice when the time comes. I can understand if those with painful periods would want it to end soon, though.

I've long since learnt to condition myself to enjoy the things that are inevitable in our lives, or at least to feel better about them if I couldn't enjoy them. This goes for things like ageing and menopause. I've been looking forward to it by focusing on the positive side of it.

Oh yes ladies and it gets harder to keep our chin up, especially when after almost 20 years after menopause, we get little hairs on our lip!!!  Now that is a rotten dirty trick to do to a woman.. and take her up close eye sight away so it makes it even harder to pluck! hahahhaha

(sorry to the men here)

I welcome it. Periods are horrible for me. They have been for several years now. I have had my tubes tied so to me still having a period is pointless.

Mary B, you have such a wonderful sense of humor. I love how you put it. Personally, I've made it a point to ask the good Lord to grant me the strength to laugh at the things I cannot change. It's the only way we're going to get through this intact.

Awwww Tamlyn,  :cute group hug:    Thank you for that.   If I didnt laugh at things I'd cry!  I'd rather laugh..  and when I get down and start to cry, you all lift me up...  Thank you for that!   :039:

Though I haven't gone through menopause, the thought of going through it does not scare me. Maybe it's because I have embraced that it's just something that has to happen.

Nope... I can't wait to start. I won't feel like less of a woman. I will be so glad when I stop getting my monthly friend. I don't want to have more children so I'm ready.

Reading through the posts on this thread, I'm happy that I am not the only person that is waiting for menopause just to get rid of my cycle. :)
